I Love What I do
The Man Behind the lens
I have been a working photographer for nearly a decade now. How time flies! In all that time, much has changed, but one thing that has never changed is how much I enjoy being behind the camera.
Whether it is a quick set of portraits on the beach, or photographing your wedding, photography appeals to my artistic and technical sides. I love the challenge of a fast-paced environment, but I also enjoy seeing memories being made and shared. I’m a very sentimental person, and weddings always have a special place in my heart.

My Approach To
Wedding Photos
You hear the phrase “storyteller” being used a lot by wedding photographers. Every wedding has a story. A beginning, a middle, and an end. I really don’t think it is all that hard to tell that story…
I think what is more challenging is capturing all the little details and candid moments. All those things that don’t necessarily get a line on the wedding day schedule, but will bring a smile to your face when you are reminded of them. I create photographs to bring those memories to life again.
About My
Wedding Photography Style
My style could best be described as a blend of photojournalistic (documentary) and fine art wedding photography. I’m always watching what is going on so that I can be sure to catch those candid moments that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you happy that someone was there to capture them. Candid wedding photos are some of my favorite wedding photos!
01. Traditional Photos
You know the ones. These are the usual posed wedding formals. This is a classic wedding photo look that was in style when your grandparents got married and will still be in style when your grandchildren get married.
02. Photo-journalistic (Candids!)
My personal favorite. This “fly-on-the-wall” approach will have me capturing all the little things that are happening throughout your wedding day without being the one to make it happen. These are the natural, real moments of a wedding.
03. Editorial & Fine Art
This style isn’t for everyone, but for the right wedding (and if we have the right amount of time for photography) it can produce some absolutely stunning images. This is a hyper-posed style, much more in line with what you might see in a fashion magazine. This is high-end wedding photography with a luxury look.
04. Light & Airy and Vibrant Colors
No matter what style I photograph your wedding day in (it is often a mix), editing is the next step. I favor vibrant and natural, true-to-life colors and a light & airy look. I have nothing against dark & moody photos, and will be happy to edit that way if it is your preference.
The Best Rhode Island Wedding Photographer for You
When choosing a wedding photographer, it is important to find the best wedding photographer for you. There are many absolutely wonderful wedding photographers out there, but finding one who is a good match for you in terms of style and vibe is important to getting the best wedding photos of your day. This is why I spend time getting to know you during your wedding consult. Do a search for Best RI Wedding Photographer or Best MA Wedding Photographer and see what pops up. You will definitely see my name. Everyone on that list will be a good photographer. Being the best is one thing, but being the best wedding photographer for my couples is really important to me. Check out these testimonials. These are all real wedding couples who made the choice to become Chris James couples! Let’s talk so we can see if we are a good fit!
Now Booking 2024–2025 Weddings
I Need a Wedding Photographer Near me
That’s great! I photograph weddings in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I also sometimes travel to nearby states on a case-by-case basis, so Connecticut and New Hampshire folks aren’t completely out of luck. Almost everything around here is near me and near you! As much as I enjoy photographing weddings at some of the beautiful venues that I’ve been to before, I’m always interested in visiting new venues. Have a wedding venue that is especially unique or interesting? I’d love to hear about it.
If you are looking to hire a wedding photographer for 2024, 2025, or beyond, now is a great time to start planning. I have open dates available and would love to speak with you about your wedding day photography needs and provide you with information about my wedding photography packages. Even if you choose to go with another wedding photographer, you will gain some valuable insight and get some great advice to help you prepare for your special day.
Complimentary
Engagement Photos
All of my wedding photography collections include a complimentary engagement session. Not only will you get some beautiful engagement photos, but it is a great way for us to spend some time to get to know each other.
Of course, you can always book an engagement photo session separate from a wedding if that is what you want to do.
Couples and Family Photo Sessions
Families, couples, even solo! Portrait sessions
Any time is the right time for photo session. Maybe it has been a while since the last time you had family photos taken (and maybe those were in a department store). It’s time for an update!
Celebrating a special occasion and want some amazing photographs to remember it by? Let’s do it!
Maybe you just want to have a “me” day. A time when it is all about you. A confidence boost. Something for your social media. Not a problem.

Wedding and Portrait Photography News
I occasionally write articles for soon-to-be brides and grooms to help them learn more about my wedding photography services. There is a lot involved in planning a wedding, and I hope that some of these articles can help you to make informed decisions about your own wedding. There can be lots of questions about weddings and wedding photography that maybe you hadn’t thought about. For example, do you need a second shooter? Do you tip the vendors? How much time do I need for wedding photos?
If you have questions about wedding photography or want to hire me as your Rhode Island or Massachusetts wedding photographer, be sure to contact me. If you would like to see an article about wedding photography (or weddings in general), let me know and I’d be happy to write one up for you.
